This was a fun new adventure for me! Being raised Christian, I have attended church services my entire life, however I have never had the honor of capturing one. First United Methodist Church in Downtown Dallas is a beautiful building, with a great lighting set up for taking photos at night. Shooting indoors at night can be a challenge, but it's not overly difficult when using a flash. The request in this situation was to not use an external flash, in order to be respectful of the congregation. Made sense to me, but also made what I had to do a bit more difficult. I made sure to do a walk through of the location beforehand, because I knew how hard it had the potential to be. Thanks to their wonderfully lit sanctuary it turned out to not be an issue at all. I hope to get to shoot it in the day time at some point to properly highlight the beautiful stained glass windows.
Working on Christmas Eve didn't sound amazing when it was first presented to me, however it turned out being very nice to get to enjoy such high quality choir music while working (seriously guys, this choir was amazing!). This type of service was also semi relaxing compared to my standard gig. The pace was slow (no first kiss to capture) and it was all lifestyle, so there was no posing involved at all. I also truly enjoyed the candle light part of the service at the end. Was really beautiful and quite peaceful. A big thank you to FUMC for the opportunity! Until next time,
